The \u2018longevity bottleneck\u2019 hypothesis has been proposed by Professor Joao Pedro de Magalhaes from the University of Birmingham in a new study <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1002\/bies.202300098\">published<\/a> in <i>BioEssays<\/i>. The hypothesis connects the role that dinosaurs played over 100 million years with the aging process in mammals.<\/p>\n<p>While some reptiles and amphibians show no significant signs of aging, all mammals\u2014including humans\u2014show a marked <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/aging+process\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">aging process<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Professor de Magalhaes\u2019 hypothesis suggests that during the Mesozoic Era, mammals faced persistent pressure for rapid reproduction during the reign of dinosaurs, which over 100 million years led to the loss or inactivation of genes associated with <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/long+life\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">long life<\/a>, such as processes associated with tissue regeneration and DNA repair.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Science: Research suggest that dinosaurs \ud83e\udd95 \ud83e\udd96 may have influenced how humans age today.
