There are a number of things that can come up in the resulting discussions, one of them being Kurt <a class=\"\" title=\"G\u00f6del's incompleteness theorems\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/G%C3%B6del%27s_incompleteness_theorems\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">G\u00f6del\u2019s incompleteness theorems<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The typical line of arguments goes something like this: <a class=\"\" title=\"Kurt G\u00f6del\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kurt_G%C3%B6del\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">G\u00f6del<\/a> implies that there are solutions that no algorithmic system can accomplish but that humans can accomplish, therefore the computational theory of mind is wrong, artificial general intelligence is impossible, and animal, or at least human minds require some as of yet unknown physics, most likely having something to do with the quantum wave function collapse (since that remains an intractable mystery in physics).<\/p>\n<p>This idea was made popular by authors like <a class=\"\" title=\"Roger Penrose\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roger_Penrose\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">Roger Penrose<\/a>, a mathematician and theoretical physicist, and <a class=\"\" title=\"Stuart Hameroff\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stuart_Hameroff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">Stuart Hameroff<\/a>, an anesthesiologist. But it follows earlier speculations from philosopher <a class=\"\" title=\"John Lucas (philosopher)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Lucas_%28philosopher%29\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">J.R.
