In October, a paper titled \u201cAssembly theory explains and quantifies selection and evolution<\/a>\u201d appeared in the journal Nature<\/i>. The authors\u2014a team led by Lee Cronin at the University of Glasgow and Sara Walker at Arizona State University\u2014claim their theory is an \u201cinterface between physics and biology\u201d which explains how complex biological forms can evolve.<\/p>\n

The paper provoked strong responses. On the one hand were headlines like \u201cBold New \u201d Theory of Everything\u2019 Could Unite Physics And Evolution<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n

On the other were reactions from scientists. One evolutionary biologist<\/a> tweeted<\/a> after multiple reads I still have absolutely no idea what [this paper] is doing.
