Since 2020, he\u2019s won three of the past four <a href=\"https:\/\/weighoff.miramarevents.com\/\">World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off<\/a> competitions\u2014and this year\u2019s entry topped them all. Weighing in at 2,749 pounds, Gienger\u2019s gourd has set a new world record for the heaviest pumpkin.<\/p>\n<p>Nicknamed \u201cMichael Jordan,\u201d the pumpkin took the crown during the annual championship in Half Moon Bay, California, this week, reports Heidi Raschke of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mprnews.org\/story\/2023\/10\/10\/worlds-largest-pumpkin-grown-in-minnesota\">Minnesota Public Radio<\/a> (MPR). It easily beat out last year\u2019s champion\u2014Gienger\u2019s own 2,560-pounder, which set a new North American record and which he later turned into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guinnessworldrecords.com\/world-records\/657492-largest-jack-olantern-by-circumference\">world\u2019s largest jack o\u2019lantern<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was not expecting that. It was quite the feeling,\u201d says Gienger, a 43-year-old landscape and horticulture teacher at Anoka Technical College, to the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/california-giant-pumpkin-world-record-dbe2b22743e332998c204f2191b2a46f\">Associated Press<\/a> (AP).
