{"id":174641,"date":"2023-10-24T11:23:39","date_gmt":"2023-10-24T16:23:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2023\/10\/chicago-region-designated-us-tech-hub-for-quantum-technologies-by-biden-harris-administration"},"modified":"2023-10-24T11:23:39","modified_gmt":"2023-10-24T16:23:39","slug":"chicago-region-designated-us-tech-hub-for-quantum-technologies-by-biden-harris-administration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2023\/10\/chicago-region-designated-us-tech-hub-for-quantum-technologies-by-biden-harris-administration","title":{"rendered":"Chicago region designated US Tech Hub for quantum technologies by Biden-Harris administration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"aligncenter blog-photo\" href=\"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog.images\/chicago-region-designated-us-tech-hub-for-quantum-technologies-by-biden-harris-administration2.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Chicago region has been named an official US Regional and Innovation Technology Hub for quantum technologies by the Biden-Harris administration, a designation that opens the door to new federal funding and recognizes the growing strength of an ecosystem poised to become the heart of the nation\u2019s quantum economy. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eda.gov\/funding\/programs\/regional-technology-and-innovation-hubs\/2023\/The-Bloch-Tech-Hub\">The Bloch Tech Hub<\/a> (pronounced \u201cblock\u201d), a coalition of industry, academic, government, and nonprofit stakeholders led by the Chicago Quantum Exchange, was one of 31 designees from nearly 400 applications across the country.<\/p>\n<p>The selection, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eda.gov\/news\/press-release\/2023\/10\/23\/biden-harris-administration-designates-31-tech-hubs-across-america\">announced<\/a> Monday morning by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2023\/10\/23\/fact-sheet-biden-harris-administration-announces-31-regional-tech-hubs-to-spur-american-innovation-strengthen-manufacturing-and-create-good-paying-jobs-in-every-region-of-the-country\/\">White House<\/a> and the US Department of Commerce\u2019s Economic Development Administration (EDA), is the first phase of a federal initiative designed to \u201csupercharge\u201d innovation economies that have the potential to become global leaders in a critical technology within a decade. As a recipient of the US Tech Hubs designation, The Bloch is now eligible to apply for the program\u2019s second phase, which could include millions of dollars in funding to implement the hub\u2019s activities. It was one of two US Tech Hubs designated in Illinois, the other focused on biomanufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHome to world-class institutions and first-rate research centers, Illinois is transforming technology, biomanufacturing, and innovation at every turn,\u201d said Illinois Governor JB Pritzker. \u201cI couldn\u2019t be prouder that the Biden Administration has selected the Chicago Quantum Exchange\u2019s The Bloch and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign\u2019s iFAB Hub as two of just 31 inaugural tech hubs \u2014 opening the door for even more investment, advancement, and discovery.
