What exactly that is, however, is still up for debate.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, systems like <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/the-decoder.com\/open-ai-gpt-4-announcement\/\">GPT-4<\/a> or GPT-5 would have passed for AGI to \u201ca lot of people\u201d ten years ago. \u201cNow people are like, well, you know, it\u2019s like a nice little chatbot or whatever,\u201d Altman said.<\/p>\n<p>The phenomenon Altman describes has a name: <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/AI_effect#:~:text=Tesler's%20Theorem%20is%3A,'t%20been%20done%20yet.%22&text=Douglas%20Hofstadter%20quotes%20this%20as, computation%20that%20includes%20human%20computation.\">It\u2019s called the \u201cAI effect,\u201d<\/a> and computer scientist Larry Tesler summed it up by saying, \u201cAI is anything that has not been done yet.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Artificial general intelligence is the big goal of OpenAI.
