Their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.science.org\/doi\/10.1126\/sciadv.ade3816\">findings were published<\/a> in the October 13 issue of the journal Science Advances.<\/p>\n<p>The team\u2019s study explored resistance to the anti-cancer medication sotorasib in patients with <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/non-small+cell+lung+cancer\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">non-small cell lung cancer<\/a> (NSCLC). Sotorasib inhibits a specific mutation of a protein, KRAS G12C, that causes unchecked cell growth.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers\u2019 findings suggest that, initially, most tumor cells are sensitive to sotorasib. But some cells can become tolerant to <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/therapeutic+treatment\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">therapeutic treatment<\/a> without resorting to <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/genetic+mutations\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">genetic mutations<\/a> or alterations by manipulating the KRAS-sotorasib interaction network.
