And the reason the light is duplicated could be because of a scar in the space between us and the galaxy, creating a gravitational lens.<\/p>\n<p>A paper describing this cosmic string candidate, led by Margarita Safonova of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, has been accepted in the <em>Bulletin de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Royale des Sciences de Li\u00e8ge<\/em>, and is available on preprint server <a href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/2309.11831\">arXiv<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A strange pair of galaxies several billion light-years away could be evidence of a hypothetical \u2018crease\u2019 in the Universe\u2019s fabric known as a cosmic string.
