Now scammers are taking advantage of the situation by ramping up their methods of swindling people.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.darkreading.com\/edge\/keep-job-scams-from-hurting-your-organization\" target=\"_blank\">Job scamming<\/a> is a threat to job seekers all over the world. For example, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbb.org\/all\/scamstudies\/jobscams\/jobscamsfullstudy\" target=\"_blank\">Better Business Bureau<\/a> (BBB) reported an increase in job scam complaints in the United States and Canada in the past several years. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/singapore\/police-scam-cybercrime-statistics-young-adults-2022-3262141\" target=\"_blank\">Singapore job seekers<\/a> lost $660 million SGD ($495 million USD) in 2022 alone. And in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/linkedin-fake-profiles-state-actors-scams\/\" target=\"_blank\">UK<\/a>, 10,000 people were approached on LinkedIn and Facebook by \u201cforeign spies and malicious actors\u201d to steal information.<\/p>\n<p>Phishing attacks and malware are the primary methods of scamming job seekers, according to a February <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trellix.com\/en-us\/about\/newsroom\/stories\/research\/cybercrime-takes-advantage-of-2023-recession-with-job-themed-scams.html\" target=\"_blank\">Trellix report<\/a>. Scammers create <a href=\"https:\/\/www.darkreading.com\/edge-articles\/why-cisos-should-care-about-brand-impersonation-scam-sites\" target=\"_blank\">fake websites<\/a>, often employing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.darkreading.com\/attacks-breaches\/solarwinds-attackers-gearing-up-typosquatting-attacks\" target=\"_blank\">typosquatting<\/a>. A fake site uses a real name like Indeed that\u2019s slightly misspelled (such as \u201cIndeeed\u201d) or extends the URL in hopes the job seeker will not notice the base domain name.
