These fascinating cosmic bodies have been the focus of countless research studies, yet their intricate physical nuances are yet to be fully uncovered.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers at University of California\u2013Santa Barbara, University of Warsaw and University of Cambridge recently carried out a theoretical study focusing on a class of <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/black+holes\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">black holes<\/a> known as extremal Kerr black holes, which are uncharged stationary black holes with a coinciding inner and outer horizon. Their paper, published in <i>Physical Review Letters<\/i>, shows that these black holes\u2019 unique characteristics could make them ideal \u201camplifiers\u201d of new, unknown <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/physics\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">physics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis research has its origin in a <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/JHEP01(2023)162\">previous project<\/a> started during my visit to UC Santa Barbara,\u201d Maciej Kolanowski, one of the researchers who carried out the study, told Phys.org. \u201cI started discussing very cold (so called, extremal) black holes with Gary Horowitz (UCSB) and Jorge Santos (at Cambridge).
