Well, the resulting Metl tires can now be purchased via \u2013 you guessed it \u2013 a Kickstarter campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The never-go-flat tires were created in partnership with NASA, which had already <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/shape-memory-alloy-rover-wheel-nasa\/52344\/\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">applied the same technology<\/a> to tires for its planetary rover vehicles \u2026 after all, it would be pretty difficult to fix a flat on the surface of the Moon or Mars. And no, they\u2019re not <i>literally<\/i> airless. They\u2019re hollow \u2013 so they have air <i>in<\/i> them \u2013 that air just isn\u2019t pressurized, nor is it required for the tire to hold its shape.<\/p>\n<p>At the heart of each Metl tire is a Slinky-like spring that runs all the way around the tire.
