The corresponding study was published in the <a href=\"https:\/\/content.iospress.com\/articles\/journal-of-alzheimers-disease\/jad221231\" target=\"_blank\">Journal of Alzheimer\u2019s Disease<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Viral, bacterial, and fungal infections <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/30338482\/\" target=\"_blank\">increase<\/a> the risk of neuroinflammation, which may cause or exacerbate neurodegeneration and dementia. Vaccines may thus reduce neurodegeneration and dementia risk by reducing the risk of infection. Previous research, for example, shows that people who receive at least one influenza vaccine are <a href=\"https:\/\/content.iospress.com\/articles\/journal-of-alzheimers-disease\/jad220361#\" target=\"_blank\">40%<\/a> less likely than unvaccinated peers to develop AD.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommends older adults receive vaccines against tetanus, diphtheria and herpes zoster, and pneumococcus.
