It\u2019s been accepted that he hatched in 1,832 based on photographic records, but it wasn\u2019t until November of this year that he was finally granted an official birthday.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan\u2019s birthday was declared to be December 4, 1832, by the governor of the British overseas territory Nigel Phillips, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2022\/dec\/02\/worlds-oldest-recorded-tortoise-prepares-for-190th-birthday-party\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Guardian<\/a> reports. It was celebrated with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/newsround\/63681674\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">three-day party<\/a> at his home on the island of St Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean and damn, that\u2019s a party we wish we\u2019d got an invite to.<\/p>\n<p>Reptilian pals and local residents were invited to the soiree that was held at the governor\u2019s house complete with a tortoise-friendly birthday cake.
