This treatment also can shrink tumors in the bile ducts inside the liver, called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/cholangiocarcinoma\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20352408\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to expand the number of patients who could be offered curative treatment,\u201d says Dr. Thiels. \u201cWe are also aiming to reduce the risk of cancer recurring in people with high-risk liver tumors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The hepatic artery carries oxygen-rich blood to the liver. A hepatic artery pump delivers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/tests-procedures\/chemotherapy\/about\/pac-20385033\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">chemotherapy<\/a> directly into the liver\u2019s blood supply.
