This achievement paves the way for cheaper, more efficient and durable solar cells.<\/p>\n<p>To facilitate consistent comparisons and benchmarking of different solar cell technologies, the photovoltaic (PV) community uses a standard size of at least 1 cm<sup>2<\/sup> to report the efficiency of one-sun <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/solar+cells\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">solar cells<\/a> in the \u201cSolar cell efficiency tables.\u201d Prior to the record-breaking feat by the NUS team, the best 1 cm<sup>2<\/sup> <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/perovskite+solar+cell\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">perovskite solar cell<\/a> recorded a <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/power+conversion+efficiency\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">power conversion efficiency<\/a> of 23.7%. This ground-breaking achievement in maximizing <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/power+generation\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">power generation<\/a> from next-generation <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/renewable+energy+sources\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">renewable energy sources<\/a> will be crucial to securing the world\u2019s energy future.<\/p>\n<p>Perovskites are a class of materials that exhibit high light absorption efficiency and ease of fabrication, making them promising for solar cell applications.
