Sandia is now investing more money to take their research to the next level.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s in the news constantly. It seems every day we hear of another product that is contaminated. We saw sparkling water with PFAS, toilet paper with PFAS, so it\u2019s not just a groundwater problem; it\u2019s popping up everywhere,\u201d said Andrew Knight, a chemist at Sandia who has a passion for solving PFAS contamination. \u201cIt has become clear to the world it is a growing problem. It is a national security issue of a large scale.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>PFAS, an abbreviation for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publichealth.va.gov\/exposures\/pfas.asp#:~:text=Perfluoroalkyl%20and%20polyfluoroalkyl%20substances%20(PFAS, resistant%2Fnon%2Dstick%20cookware.\">perfluoroalkyl<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niehs.nih.gov\/health\/topics\/agents\/pfc\/index.cfm\">polyfluoroalkyl substances<\/a>, are a group of chemicals used to make fluoropolymer products that resist heat, oil, stains and water.
