First <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.com\/blog\/2022\/12\/19\/write-and-publish-your-newsletter-on-wordpress-com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched<\/a> in December, <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.com\/setup\/newsletter\/intro?ref=blog-post\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><a href=\"http:\/\/WordPress.com\">WordPress.com<\/a> Newsletter<\/a> allows writers to automatically send out posts via email to connect directly with their audience, while still being able to leverage <a href=\"http:\/\/WordPress.com\">WordPress.com<\/a>\u2019s other capabilities. Writers can opt to use the feature solely for newsletters or they can add the option to their blog to cater to readers who want to receive new posts via email instead.<\/p>\n<p>While for years there have been plug-ins and third-party services that allow blog owners to send out their posts via email, <a href=\"http:\/\/WordPress.com\">WordPress.com<\/a>\u2019s decision to move more directly into this space was a reflection of how people now prefer to read news and information. As the state of websites has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2017\/1\/18\/14304276\/walt-mossberg-online-ads-bad-business\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">worsened<\/a> \u2014 dominated by clutter, ads, overlays, pop-ups, and cookie acceptance banners \u2014 many have turned to email as an easier way to stay connected to writers, journalists, essayists, and other publishers they want to follow.<\/p>\n<p>Given WordPress.com\u2019s sizable footprint \u2014 WordPress powers <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.com\/blog\/2022\/12\/19\/write-and-publish-your-newsletter-on-wordpress-com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">43% of the web<\/a>, including its open source version \u2014 its shift into the newsletters market is significant.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WordPress.com is taking on Substack and others with today\u2019s news that its Newsletter product will now support paid subscriptions and premium content.
