Today, OpenAI <a href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/blog\/introducing-the-chatgpt-app-for-ios\">announced<\/a> the launch of an <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/openai-chatgpt\/id6448311069\">official iOS app<\/a> that allows users to access its popular AI chatbot on the go, months after the App Store was filled with <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/01\/10\/app-store-and-play-store-are-flooded-with-dubious-chatgpt-apps\/\">dubious, unofficial services<\/a>. The new ChatGPT app will be free to use, free from ads, and will allow for voice input, the company says, but will initially be limited to U.S. users at launch.<\/p>\n<p>Like its desktop counterpart, the ChatGPT app allows users to interact with an AI chatbot to ask questions without running a traditional web search, plus get advice, find inspiration, learn, research, and more. Given the issues with Apple\u2019s own voice assistant, Siri,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theinformation.com\/articles\/apples-siri-chief-struggles-as-new-ai-era-begins?rc=48qqgg\"> and Apple\u2019s own lack of AI progress,<\/a> the new release could push more users to try ChatGPT on their phones as their main mobile helper. The launch could also potentially impact Google, as the search engine today benefits from being the <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2021\/08\/25\/analysts-google-to-pay-apple-15-billion-to-remain-default-safari-search-engine-in-2021\/\">default search engine<\/a> in Safari on Apple\u2019s iPhone.<\/p>\n<p>When using the mobile version of ChatGPT, the app will sync your history across devices \u2014 meaning it will know what you\u2019ve previously searched for via its web interface, and make that accessible to you. The app is also integrated with <a href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/research\/whisper\">Whisper<\/a>, OpenAI\u2019s open source speech recognition system, to allow for voice input.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ChatGPT is going mobile.
