After forming in the hippocampus, a curved structure that lies deep within the brain, the mice\u2019s memories were actually rooted through what\u2019s called the anterior thalamus, an area of the brain that scientists haven\u2019t typically associated with memory processing at all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe thalamus being a clear winner here was very interesting for us, and unexpected,\u201d said Priya Rajasethupathy, an associate professor at Rockefeller University and one of the coauthors of a peer-reviewed study published in the journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cell.com\/cell\/fulltext\/S0092-8674(23)00167-8\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\">Cell<\/a> this week.
