Since OpenAI released ChatGPT in late November, technology companies including Microsoft<\/a> and Google<\/a> have been racing to offer<\/a> new artificial intelligence tools and capabilities. But where is that race leading?<\/p>\n

Historian Yuval Hararia\u2014author of Sapiens<\/em>, Homo Deus<\/em>, and Unstoppable Us <\/em> \u2014believes that when it comes to \u201cdeploying humanity\u2019s most consequential technology,\u201d the race to dominate the market \u201cshould not set the speed.\u201d Instead, he argues, \u201cWe should move at whatever speed enables us to get this right.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hararia shared his thoughts Friday in a New York Times <\/em> op-ed<\/a> written with Tristan Harris and Aza Raskin, founders of the nonprofit Center for Humane Technology, which aims to align technology with humanity\u2019s best interests.
