They have unique electronic properties but also feature numerous active sites available for catalysis on their surface. There are several synthetic methods for making <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/metal\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">metal<\/a> nanoclusters, but most require multiple steps involving <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/toxic+substances\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">toxic substances<\/a> and harsh temperature and pressure conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Biological methods are expected to deliver ecofriendly alternatives to conventional chemical synthesis.
