The company unveiled the 5G non-terrestrial networks (NTN) modem so phones can communicate with satellites in locations where there is no cellular network connectivity.<\/p>\n<p>The company said that it aims to integrate this tech into its own Exynos chip, which is used in a lot of Samsung smartphones \u2014 but not the current flagship device, the Samsung Galaxy S23. The Korean tech giant describes this tech as using \u201csatellites and other non-terrestrial vehicles\u201d to provide connectivity in remote areas.<\/p>\n<p>The move follows Apple, which launched satellite connectivity with <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/09\/07\/iphone-14-gains-satellite-sos-for-off-grid-emergencies\/\">iPhone 14 and 14 Pro for off-grid connectivity<\/a>. The company first made this tech available in <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/11\/15\/apple-emergency-sos-via-satellite-hands-on\/\">the U.S. and Canada<\/a>, later expanding it to <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/12\/13\/apples-iphone-14-emergency-sos-via-satellite-feature-france-germany-ireland-uk\/\">France, Germany, Ireland and the U.K<\/a>.
