But on Jan. 15, JWST\u2019s Near Infrared Imager and Slitless Spectrograph (NIRISS) instrument \u201cexperienced a communications delay within the instrument, causing its flight software to time out,\u201d according to a Jan. 24 <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nasa.gov\/webb\/2023\/01\/24\/near-infrared-imager-and-slitless-spectrograph-operations-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"\">statement<\/a> (opens in new tab) from NASA.
