Microplastics have been detected from <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/arctic-sea-ice-microplastics\/54376\/\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">pole<\/a> to <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/environment\/first-microplastics-discovered-antarctica-snow\/\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">pole<\/a>, from the <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/environment\/deep-sea-trench-plastic-traps\/\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">deepest ocean trenches<\/a> to the <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/environment\/highest-microplastics-top-mt-everest\/\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">tallest mountain peaks<\/a>, and are making their way up the <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/seal-poo-ocean-plastic-food-chain\/53670\/\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">food chain<\/a> all the way to <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/microplastic-human-stool-samples\/56908\/\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">humans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Various materials are being tested to help filter out microplastics, including <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/environment\/nanopillared-structures-microplastics-water-magnetism\/\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">magnetic \u201cnanopillars<\/a>,\u201d <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/environment\/nanocellulose-filter-microplastics-water\/\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">nanocellulose<\/a>, <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/solar-filter-breaks-down-microplastics\/52094\/\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">semiconductor wires<\/a>, and <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/environment\/slow-sand-filter-nanoplastics-drinking-water\/\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">filtration columns<\/a> containing sand, gravel and biofilms.
