Vaccines are one intervention that could help eliminate this deadly disease, yet a highly effective vaccine remains elusive. Recent technological advances in vaccine development\u2013such as the mRNA vaccines for SARS-CoV2\u2013could lead to a new generation of malaria vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>Now, a research team led by George Washington University has developed two mRNA <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/vaccine\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">vaccine<\/a> candidates that are highly effective in reducing both <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/malaria+infection\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">malaria infection<\/a> and transmission. The team also found that the two experimental vaccines induced a powerful immune response regardless of whether they were given individually or in combination. The study was published today in <i>npj Vaccines<\/i>, an open-access <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/scientific+journal\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">scientific journal<\/a> that is part of the Nature Portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMalaria elimination will not happen overnight but such vaccines could potentially banish <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/malaria\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">malaria<\/a> from many parts of the world,\u201d Nirbhay Kumar, a professor of global health at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, said. \u201cThe mRNA vaccine technology can really be a game changer.
