Nevertheless, experts in the field of AI have no doubt accomplished some major milestones along the way, including developing AI capable of <a href=\"https:\/\/thenewstack.io\/googles-deepmind-ai-now-capable-deep-neural-reasoning\/\" class=\"\">deep neural reasoning<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thenewstack.io\/mit-robot-uses-tactile-reasoning-ai-to-play-jenga-like-a-human\/\" class=\"\">tactile reasoning<\/a>, and even AI with rudimentary <a href=\"https:\/\/thenewstack.io\/ai-algorithm-social-skills-cooperates-better-humans\/\" class=\"\">social skills<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, in yet another step toward AI with more human-like intelligence, researchers from <a href=\"https:\/\/thenewstack.io\/ibms-k8s-based-codeflare-framework-takes-ai-from-laptop-to-the-cloud\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">IBM<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/thenewstack.io\/this-ai-can-automatically-decipher-lost-ancient-languages\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Massachusetts Institute of Technology<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thenewstack.io\/harvards-new-open-source-ai-algorithm-simplifies-protein-folding-puzzle\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Harvard University<\/a> have developed a series of tests that would evaluate an AI\u2019s ability to use a machine version of \u201ccommon sense\u201d \u2014 or a basic ability to perceive, understand, and judge in a manner that is shared by nearly all humans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The goal of achieving what is called artificial general intelligence \u2014 or the capacity of an engineered system to display human-like general intelligence \u2014 is still some time off into the future.
