Their model, presented in a paper pre-published on arXiv, can actively learn new context-appropriate social behaviors by observing interactions among humans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDeep learning techniques have produced interesting results in areas such as computer vision and <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/natural+language+understanding\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">natural language understanding<\/a>,\u201d Woo-Ri Ko, one of the researchers who carried out the study, told TechXplore. \u201cWe set out to apply <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/deep+learning\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">deep learning<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/social+robotics\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">social robotics<\/a>, specifically by allowing robots to learn <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/social+behavior\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">social behavior<\/a> from human-human interactions on their own. Our method requires no prior knowledge of human behavior models, which are usually costly and time-consuming to implement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/artificial+neural+network\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">artificial neural network<\/a> (ANN)-based architecture developed by Ko and his colleagues combines <a href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/1409.3215\">the Seq2Seq (sequence-to-sequence) model introduced by Google researchers in 2014<\/a> with generative adversarial networks (GANs).
