The new study, published in <i>Clinical Infectious Diseases<\/i>, shows that is no longer the case. Doctors who rely on outdated maps of disease-causing <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/fungi\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">fungi<\/a> may miss the signs of a fungal lung infection, resulting in delayed or incorrect diagnoses, the researchers said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery few weeks I get a call from a doctor in the Boston area\u2014a different doctor every time\u2014about a case they can\u2019t solve,\u201d said senior author Andrej Spec, MD, an associate professor of medicine and a specialist in <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/fungal+infections\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">fungal infections<\/a>. \u201cThey always start by saying, \u2018We don\u2019t have histo here, but it really kind of looks like histo.\u2019 I say, \u2018You guys call me all the time about this.
