But that supply is finite, and fossil fuel consumption has tremendous negative impact on Earth\u2019s climate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe biggest challenge many people don\u2019t realize is that even nature has no solution for the amount of energy we use,\u201d said University of Chicago chemist Wenbin Lin. Not even <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/photosynthesis\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">photosynthesis<\/a> is that good, he said: \u201cWe will have to do better than nature, and that\u2019s scary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One possible option scientists are exploring is \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/artificial+photosynthesis\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">artificial photosynthesis<\/a>\u201d\u2014reworking a plant\u2019s system to make our own kinds of fuels.
