The planet\u2019s surface is dry and frozen, and cosmic radiation and solar protons are constantly bombarding it. But that may not have always been the case\u2014scientists believe water flowed on Mars between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/feature\/jpl\/nasa-s-mro-finds-water-flowed-on-mars-longer-than-previously-thought\">2 and 2.5 billion years ago<\/a>, which would\u2019ve made the planet slightly more hospitable.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers were curious to know what kind of life might have evolved\u2014and, potentially, survived into the present\u2014on the Red Planet.
