The findings offer new insights into how the brain functions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cResearchers have sought to identify <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/neural+circuits\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">neural circuits<\/a> that have specialized functions, but there are simply too many tasks the <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/brain\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">brain<\/a> performs for each circuit to have its own purpose,\u201d explains Andr\u00e9 Fenton, a professor of neural science at New York University and the senior author of the study, which appears in the journal <i>Cell Reports<\/i>. \u201cOur results reveal how the same circuit takes on more than one function.
