The pandemic squashed that timeline, but late last month Alstom, the French company making the trains, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alstom.com\/press-releases-news\/2022\/8\/world-premiere-14-coradia-ilint-start-passenger-service-first-100\">announced<\/a> the start of passenger service.<\/p>\n<p>Five <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alstom.com\/solutions\/rolling-stock\/alstom-coradia-ilint-worlds-1st-hydrogen-powered-train\">Coradia iLint trains<\/a> started carrying passengers in August, and nine more will replace the diesel trains currently running on a route in Bremerv\u00f6rde, Lower Saxony by the end of this year.<\/p>\n<p>The only byproducts from the trains\u2019 operation are steam and water; any heat created is used to help power their heating and air conditioning systems. They have a range of 1,000 kilometers (621 miles), meaning they can run on a single tank of <a href=\"https:\/\/singularityhub.com\/2021\/05\/14\/toyota-is-building-a-futuristic-prototype-city-powered-by-hydrogen\/\">hydrogen<\/a> for a full day.
