Now a new study has identified a new problem\u2014a study in fruit flies suggests our basic cellular functions could be impacted by the blue light emitted by these devices. These results are published in Frontiers in Aging.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExcessive exposure to blue light from everyday devices, such as TVs, laptops, and phones, may have detrimental effects on a wide range of cells in our body, from skin and <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/fat+cells\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">fat cells<\/a>, to <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/sensory+neurons\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">sensory neurons<\/a>,\u201d said Dr. Jadwiga Giebultowicz, a professor at the Department of Integrative Biology at Oregon State University and senior author of this study. \u201cWe are the first to show that the levels of specific metabolites\u2014chemicals that are essential for cells to function correctly\u2014are altered in <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/fruit+flies\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">fruit flies<\/a> exposed to blue light.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur study suggests that avoidance of excessive blue light exposure may be a good anti-aging strategy,\u201d advised Giebultowicz.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Too much screen use has been linked to obesity and psychological problems.
