They then filled it with water and algae that use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freethink.com\/science\/hacking-photosynthesis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">photosynthesis<\/a> to harvest energy from sunlight.<\/p>\n<p>That process produces a small electric current.
