This is an important step in the U.S. Department of Defense\u2019s plan to use weapons that can travel faster than five times the speed of sound.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2022, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/hypersonic-air-breathing-weapon-second-flight-test#:~:text=HAWC&#x0025;20is&#x0025;20a&#x0025;20project&#x0025;20to, to&#x0025;20start&#x0025;20its&#x0025;20jet&#x0025;20engine.\">Hypersonic Air-breathing Weapon Concept<\/a> (HAWC) was put to the test.
