Since the 1920s, physicists have worked to try and unravel the workings of these negatively charged particles, and how they behave in different situations. Now, research conducted at the University of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurekalert.org\/news-releases\/956234\">Cambridge<\/a> has shed new light on a pair of key factors\u2013the spins and charges of electrons\u2013revealing even more about their unique behavior.<\/p>\n<p><b>Background: Spin and Charge<\/b><\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"http:\/\/hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu\/hbase\/spin.html\">1920s<\/a>, scientists conducted several experiments that revealed electrons possess multiple spins. One of these, the <a href=\"http:\/\/hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu\/hbase\/spin.html\">Stern-Gerlach<\/a> experiment, involved a beam of silver atoms directed at an uneven <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/how-an-artificial-magnetic-field-could-make-mars-habitable\/\">magnetic<\/a> field.
