We gotta wonder: how long until human academics are obsolete?<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/we-asked-gpt-3-to-write-an-academic-paper-about-itself-then-we-tried-to-get-it-published\/\" class=\"\">an editorial published by <em>Scientific American<\/em><\/a>, Swedish researcher Almira Osmanovic Thunstr\u00f6m describes what began as a simple experiment in how well OpenAI\u2019s GPT-3 text generating algorithm could write about itself and ended with a paper that\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/the-byte\/academic-fraud-retractions\" class=\"\">currently being peer reviewed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The initial command Thunstr\u00f6m entered into the text generator was elementary enough: \u201cWrite an academic thesis in 500 words about GPT-3 and add scientific references and citations inside the text.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\ud83d\ude33!
