This is achieved with the help of artificial neural networks, which are trained to \u201csee\u201d the car\u2019s surroundings, mimicking the human visual perception system.<\/p>\n<p>But unlike humans, cars using <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/artificial+neural+networks\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">artificial neural networks<\/a> have no memory of the past and are in a constant state of seeing the world for the first time\u2014no matter how many times they\u2019ve driven down a particular road before. This is particularly problematic in adverse weather conditions, when the car cannot safely rely on its sensors.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers at the Cornell Ann S.
