In fact, it is one of the hottest areas of the emerging longevity biotechnology industry, and every venture firm in the field is either investing, incubating, or looking for projects in this area. Companies like<a href=\"https:\/\/boldcapitalpartners.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/boldcapitalpartners.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"BOLD Capital\"> BOLD Capital<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/future.ventures\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/future.ventures\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"Future Ventures\"> Future Ventures<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/longevc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/longevc.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"LongeVC\"> LongeVC<\/a>, and iconic biotechnology investors including<a href=\"https:\/\/www.archventure.com\/team\/robert-t-nelsen\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.archventure.com\/team\/robert-t-nelsen\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"Bob Nelsen\"> Bob Nelsen<\/a> and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atai.life\/people\/christian-angermayer\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.atai.life\/people\/christian-angermayer\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"Christian Angermayer\"> Christian Angermayer<\/a>, are all active and significant partners in this area of science. While females generally live longer than men, their reproductive period is limited\u2014something that is often overlooked. A female\u2019s peak reproductive years are between the late teens and late 20s. Fertility starts to decline by age 30, and this decline becomes more rapid once women reach the mid-30s. By 45, fertility declines so much that getting pregnant naturally is unlikely for most women. Likewise, women begin life with a<a href=\"https:\/\/extendfertility.com\/your-fertility-3\/egg-count\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/extendfertility.com\/your-fertility-3\/egg-count\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"fixed number\"> fixed number<\/a> of eggs in their ovaries, usually around one million. This number decreases as women age. Ovaries age faster than the rest of a woman\u2019s body\u2014an understudied phenomenon of a neglected organ. None of us would be here without them. Yet surprisingly little is known about the avocado-shaped organ that\u2019s nestled inside half of all humans.<\/p>\n<p>The ovaries also influence a woman\u2019s overall health and well-being. This includes how they age, since this organ tends to lose its function with age faster than any other tissue. This is called asynchronous aging, and it\u2019s one reason why a woman\u2019s fertility declines, and menopause strikes, while they are still relatively young.<\/p>\n<p>In one of my<a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/alexzhavoronkov\/2022\/01\/12\/nature-is-sexist-can-advances-in-longevity-biotechnology-help--restore-reproductive-equality\/?sh=d1d0abf350f2\" target=\"_self\" class=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/alexzhavoronkov\/2022\/01\/12\/nature-is-sexist-can-advances-in-longevity-biotechnology-help--restore-reproductive-equality\/?sh=d1d0abf350f2\" aria-label=\"previous articles\"> previous articles<\/a>, I wrote about<a href=\"https:\/\/gametogen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/gametogen.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"Gameto\"> Gameto<\/a>, a biotechnology company that is translating the impact of ovarian aging to develop solutions to improve fertility and stop the impact of menopause on female health. Gameto\u2019s co-founder and CEO<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dinaradenkovic?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dinaradenkovic?lang=en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"Dina Radenkovic\"> Dina Radenkovic<\/a> told me about her intention to redefine the narrative around female reproductive longevity and making it more around health and longevity. Gameto is building a <a href=\"https:\/\/gametogen.com\/visionamptechnology\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/gametogen.com\/visionamptechnology\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"platform for ovarian therapeutics\">platform for ovarian therapeutics<\/a> to address menopause and improve assisted fertility. Dina told me she hopes it will make women suffer fewer health problems in their later lives. Neglecting the ovaries\u2014except for their crucial role in IVF treatments\u2014has been<a href=\"https:\/\/science.sciencemag.org\/content\/364\/6443\/825?ijkey=e5572d1341c7a64f03d47c76e7a61020bb93c831&keytype2=tf_ipsecsha\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/science.sciencemag.org\/content\/364\/6443\/825?ijkey=e5572d1341c7a64f03d47c76e7a61020bb93c831&keytype2=tf_ipsecsha\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"part of a general disregard\"> part of a general disregard<\/a> for many aspects of women\u2019s health in the biomedical world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The field of female reproductive longevity and inequality is getting more and more attention.
