Now, researchers have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-022-04724-y\">trained computers to identify these tiny gravitational signals<\/a>, demonstrating how the signals can be used to mark the location and size of a strong quake almost instantaneously.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a first step to creating a very early warning system for the planet\u2019s most powerful quakes, scientists report May 11 in <em>Nature<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Such a system could help solve a thorny problem in seismology: how to quickly pin down the true magnitude of a massive quake immediately after it happens, says Andrea Licciardi, a geophysicist at the Universit\u00e9 C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur in Nice, France.
