These AI systems can\u2019t effectively work with people because they have no idea that humans can behave in seemingly irrational ways, says Mustafa Mert \u00c7elikok. He\u2019s a Ph.D. student studying human-AI interaction, with the idea of taking the strengths and weaknesses of both sides and blending them into a superior decision-maker.<\/p>\n<p>In the AI world, one example of such a hybrid is a \u201ccentaur.\u201d It\u2019s not a mythological horse\u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/human\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">human<\/a>, but a human-AI team. Centaurs appeared in chess in the late 1990s, when <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/artificial+intelligence\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">artificial intelligence<\/a> systems became advanced enough to beat human champions. In place of a \u201chuman versus machine\u201d matchup, centaur or cyborg chess involves one or more computer chess programs and human players on each side.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the Formula 1 of chess,\u201d says \u00c7elikok. \u201cGrandmasters have been defeated. Super AIs have been defeated.
