Researchers don\u2019t fully know, but factors such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.palomar.edu\/anthro\/vary\/vary_3.htm\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">where someone\u2019s ancestors are from<\/a> and past infections which spurred protective mutations in the blood may have contributed to the diversity, according to Dr. Douglas Guggenheim, a hematologist with Penn Medicine. People with type O blood may get sicker with <a href=\"https:\/\/medicine.wustl.edu\/news\/study-may-explain-people-type-o-blood-likely-die-cholera\/#:~:text=more%20severe%20symptoms.-, People%20with%20blood%20type%20O%20often%20get%20more%20severely%20ill, signaling%20molecule%20in%20intestinal%20cells.\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">cholera<\/a>, for example, while people with type A or B blood may be more likely to experience blood clotting issues.
