Previously, what exactly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universetoday.com\/33454\/how-do-black-holes-form\/\">caused these flares<\/a> had been a mystery to science.<\/p>\n<p>That mystery was <a href=\"https:\/\/iopscience.iop.org\/article\/10.3847\/2041-8213\/ac46a1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">solved recently<\/a> by a team of researchers that used a series of supercomputers to model the details of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/black-holes\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"black holes\">black holes<\/a>\u2019 magnetic fields in far more detail than any previous effort. The simulations point to the breaking and remaking of super-strong magnetic fields as the source of the super-bright <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universetoday.com\/152032\/a-black-hole-emitted-a-flare-away-from-us-but-its-intense-gravity-redirected-the-blast-back-in-our-direction\/\">flares<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists have known that black holes have powerful magnetic fields surrounding them for some time.
