{"id":136222,"date":"2022-03-01T09:56:08","date_gmt":"2022-03-01T17:56:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/?p=136222"},"modified":"2022-03-01T14:41:30","modified_gmt":"2022-03-01T22:41:30","slug":"terranascient-futures-studies-foresight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2022\/03\/terranascient-futures-studies-foresight","title":{"rendered":"Terranascient Futures Studies &amp; Foresight"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p id=\"934b\"><em>The importance of learning, unlearning, and relearning the wisdom in foresight<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"fe66\">By <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@alexandrawhittingtonfuturist\">Alexandra Whittington <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@teresainescruz\">Teresa In\u00e9s Cruz<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"40cd\">Futurist Alvin Toffler famously said, \u201cThe illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.\u201d It is time for the foresight community to take Toffler\u2019s sage advice, starting with one basic assumption of the Western futurist perspective that dates back to the <a href=\"https:\/\/aeon.co\/essays\/how-the-victorians-invented-the-future-for-us\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Victorians<\/a>: progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"93fb\">The concepts of learning, unlearning, and relearning belong in every futurist\u2019s repertoire in the sense that we need to learn our bias for progress, unlearn its primacy as a societal objective, and relearn that the human condition is best served by achieving homeostasis\u2013steady equilibrium.
