Insects and animals, including many mammals, curb reproduction in the winter to protect their newborns from being exposed to harsh winter conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The study has <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/public+health\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">public health<\/a> and agricultural implications, as tapping into environmentally-dependent mechanisms that influence reproduction in <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/mosquitoes\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">mosquitoes<\/a> and crop pests may offer new control strategies.
