Now, it\u2019s being put to action with this student-built drone.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>Drones <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedrive.com\/the-war-zone\/43561\/mysterious-drone-swarms-over-navy-destroyers-off-california-went-on-for-weeks\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">aren\u2019t anything new <\/a>\u2014multi-rotor aircraft are becoming a bigger part of people\u2019s lives every day. From the latest batch of up-and-coming urban air mobility companies to hobby applications, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedrive.com\/the-war-zone\/41838\/drone-makes-first-autonomous-aerial-delivery-between-two-military-vessels\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">electric aircraft with four or more motors<\/a> are commonplace, and generally, they use conventional multi-bladed propellers to keep themselves aloft. That\u2019s not what\u2019s going on with this particular drone developed by engineering students at the University of Maryland, though.<\/p>\n<p>Assembled for a student design competition hosted by the Vertical Flight Society, it\u2019s a mixture of old and new.
