An emerging view suggests the much-publicized quest for more <a href=\"https:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2021\/03\/29\/honeywell-says-quantum-computers-will-outpace-standard-verification-in-18-to-24-months\/\">quantum qubits<\/a> and quantum supremacy may be overshadowed by a more sensible quest to make practical use of the qubits we have now.<\/p>\n<p>The latter view holds particularly true at <a href=\"https:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2020\/09\/29\/d-wave-advantage-quantum-computing-5000-qubits-1-million-variables\/\">D-Wave Systems Inc<\/a>., the Vancouver, B.C., Canada-based quantum computing pioneer that recently disclosed its roadmap for work on <a href=\"https:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2021\/01\/29\/classiq-aims-to-advance-software-development-for-quantum-computers\/\">logic gate-model quantum computing systems<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>D-Wave\u2019s embrace of gates is notable. To date, the company focuses solely on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quantumcomputinginc.com\/blog\/quantum-annealing-gate\/\">quantum annealing<\/a> processors. Using this probabilistic approach, it has achieved superconducting qubit processor counts that it claims outpaces most others. Its latest Advantage system boasts 5,000 qubits.
