What\u2019s more, providers and people with HIV encountered few barriers to giving or receiving the injections despite changes in health services during COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the course of a year, even with the added challenges of COVID-19, the barriers that providers and patients thought they would face turned out not to be as concerning as originally thought,\u201d Dr Maggie Czarnogorski of ViiV Healthcare <a href=\"https:\/\/viivhealthcare.com\/en-gb\/media\/press-releases\/2021\/July\/viiv-healthcare-study-shows-new-long-acting-hiv-regimen-cabenuva\/\">said in a press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In October 2020, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ema.europa.eu\/en\/news\/first-long-acting-injectable-antiretroviral-therapy-hiv-recommended-approval\">approved the injectable combination regimen<\/a>, which consists of an extended-release formulation of ViiV Healthcare\u2019s new integrase inhibitor cabotegravir <em>(Vocabria)<\/em> plus an injectable version of Janssen\u2019s non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor rilpivirine (<em>Rekambys, <\/em>sold in pill form as <em>Edurant<\/em>).
