Engineers at Caltech, ETH Zurich, and Harvard are developing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caltech.edu\/about\/news\/scientists-teach-ai-to-navigate-ocean-with-minimal-energy\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow\">an AI that will allow autonomous drones<\/a> to navigate using the ocean\u2019s currents rather than struggling to move through them.<\/p>\n<p>According to one of the authors of a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41467-021-27015-y\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow\">paper published<\/a> in <em>Nature Communications<\/em> 0, John O. Dabiri, communications with robots exploring at depths of 20,000 feet is near impossible. They are difficult to control via joystick, and researchers are unable to feed them data about local ocean currents.
