What lives in the quantum realm either hasn\u2019t been proven to exist (yet) or behaves strangely if it does exist.<\/p>\n<p>Black holes often venture into that realm. With these collapsed stars \u2014 at least most of them are \u2014 being impossible to fly a spacecraft into (unless you never want to see it again), one physicist decided that the best way to get up close to them was under a literal microscope. Jeff Steinhauer wanted to know whether black holes radiate particles <a href=\"https:\/\/www.syfy.com\/syfywire\/will-we-ever-find-out-what-stephen-hawking-was-really-thinking-about-black-holes\">like the late Stephen Hawking theorized<\/a> they would. Because one of these leviathans would never fit in a lab, he and his research team created one right here on Earth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to understand how we see the Hawking radiation sound waves falling in and coming out,\u201d Steinhauer, who co-authored a study recently published in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41567-020-01076-0\">Nature Physics<\/a>,<\/em> told SYFY WIRE. \u201cThey should be very slight.
